MANAGING ALLEGATIONS AGAINST PEOPLE WHO WORK WITH CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE AND THE ROLE OF THE LADO
Appendix 5 Working Together 2006, and LSCB 26 sets out the process to be followed by agencies when responding to allegations against adults who work with children and young people the procedures must be used in all cases where it is alleged that a person who works with children or young people, including volunteers and foster carers has:
- Behaved in a way that has harmed a child or may have harmed a child.
- Possibly committed a criminal offence against or related to a child, or
- Behaved towards a child or children in a way that indicates s/he is unsuitable to work with children
All allegations that meet these criteria must be reported to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)

The LADO is responsible for:-
- Providing advice, information and guidance to employers and voluntary organisations around allegations and concerns regarding paid and unpaid workers
- Managing and overseeing individual case from all partner agencies
- Ensuring there is a consistent, fair and thorough process for all adults working with Children and Young People against whom allegations are made.
- Managing the process of cases to ensure they are dealt with as quickly as possible.
We recognise the stress caused when an allegation is made to all parties concerned and do our best to ensure support is available for people going through the process.
